When you are planning a trip, the first thing on your mind is savings. You want to be able to get the best airfare available to you and not spend unneeded money. The fact about airlines is that the ones who seek out the best rates get it and the ones who do not, don’t! You could be sitting next to a man on the same flight, going to the same destination and pay hundreds more than him, that does not seem fair does it?

The first thing to do when trying to get the best flight is to contact your major airlines and ask a few questions, do not book with them, just ask the main questions that will help your search. You should find out from the airline if they offer discounts for Travel on certain days, the beginning and end of the week is usually busy with business travelers so in many cases the middle of the week will offer a better rate as a simple rule of thumb. The next question is to ask about what night stay over results in the best rate. Many times airlines will offer discounts if a weekend day or a certain day of the week is spent over in the city you flew to before returning.

Once you have the information needed you can start your search online. Take note of the days that are cheapest for travel for a given airlines and insert those dates into the various travel planning sites to compare rates.

Dates of flight is one of the biggest factor on knowing the cheapest flight. You might have planned on leaving Friday for your vacation but if Wednesday offers a $300 discount on your ticket then you might want to reconsider your plans.

Book you flight early, early booking for a flight can make you pay less than to wait for your booking. Book ahead of time, as much as possible and be flexible with your arrival and departing times. Staying longer to a place of destination may result to have a better ticket but staying overnight you might have to consider the cost of airport transfer to a hotel and the hotel cost in the price of the ticket. A few hours in the airport is not too bad but overnight stays can be very uncomfortable unless going to a hotel then they just become too expensive to make the discount worth it.
